Cette cat\u00e9gorisation correspond tr\u00e8s largement \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9ologie en vigueur chez les partisans de Messali Hadj qui promeuvent, \u00e0 travers leurs activit\u00e9s et leurs journaux, un f\u00e9minisme diff\u00e9rentialiste, ancr\u00e9 dans la tradition arabo-islamique et \u00e0 dimension caritative. En r\u00e9ponse au d\u00e9clenchement de la lutte arm\u00e9e et \u00e0 une propagande colonialiste qui met en avant l\u2019\u00e9mancipation f\u00e9minine, le contexte devient favorable \u00e0 une red\u00e9finition du r\u00f4le assign\u00e9 aux Alg\u00e9riennes musulmanes. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne, dont nous interrogeons les conditions d\u2019\u00e9mergence et la port\u00e9e, se manifeste avec plus de vigueur dans l\u2019\u00e9migration alg\u00e9rienne en France et trouve son cadre institutionnel dans l\u2019\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re syndicat messaliste, l\u2019Union des syndicats de travailleurs alg\u00e9riens (USTA). Ces syndicalistes, pr\u00e9occup\u00e9es autant par l\u2019\u00e9mancipation f\u00e9minine que l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance nationale ou les revendications ouvri\u00e8res, permettent au mouvement messaliste de pr\u00e9senter des visages acceptables par leurs interlocuteurs fran\u00e7ais et de se d\u00e9marquer de son concurrent du Front de lib\u00e9ration nationale (FLN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"titreparal\">The Faces of Emancipation: The Action of Messalist Women during the Algerian Revolution<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Algerian revolution illustrates a particular type of revolution, the woman-in-the-family model, which excluded or marginalised women from the process of defining and building independence, liberation and freedom. This categorisation corresponded quite closely to the dominant ideology of Messali Hadj\u2019s partisans, whose activities and newspapers promoted a differentialist feminism, anchored in the Arabo-Islamic tradition and with a charitable dimension. In response to the outbreak of armed combat and colonialist propaganda that emphasised women\u2019s emancipation, the context became favourable to a redefinition of the role assigned to Muslim Algerian women. This phenomenon, which we will investigate in terms of the conditions for its emergence and its scope, was stronger among Algerian emigrants in France, and found its institutional framework in the short-lived Messalist union, the Union des syndicats de travailleurs alg\u00e9riens (USTA).
